Our first meeting of 'Pribilof Pen Pals' was August 28. There are just about 14 students who are involved. It took us three meetings just to get organized and send out permission forms for the blogspot! Now we are ready to go! We meet every Wednesday during seventh grade lunch in Mrs. P's room.
Our first contact with you is all about us, you and we. We are going to start by writing an 'I Am" poem. Inside the poems we have questions for you. Hope you can answer them!
We also want to learn more about your folktales, legends, and customs. Mrs. P had us learn a story about our island natural history that explained how our ancestors thought our island was made. We think it has something to do about how the Hawaiian Islands were made from hot spots in the ocean crust. The islands were 'pulled up' from the bottom by Maui. Really they were "piled up" by the lava flow from the hot spot. Inside of every mo'olelo (folktale) there IS a grain of truth.
If you would like to write us an 'I AM' poem back, try to go to this website and it will help you get one together for sure.

Mrs. P is going to send you our first package this week. Hope you enjoy it, and we are looking forward to hearing from you.
